NSW Program for 2021
2021
Dear Fellow Golfers,
2021 is going to be bigger and better year for our golf BUT please note the following housekeeping issues:
- If you are playing and/or need a caddie/guide, the BGNSW Captain MUST be advised by 12 noon on the Tuesday before that Saturday’s event.
- If the BGNSW Captain doesn’t hear from you, It will be assumed that you are not playing. It is NOT the Captain’s responsibility to ring and chase you.
If you have your own caddie/guide for the game, please also let the Captain know by 12 noon on the Tuesday, so they can finalize the game sheet. On playing days at Barnwell Park, please assemble at the Pro Shop by no later than 10:00-10:15am (unless otherwise advised) for hit off anytime thereafter. Late arrivals will be placed at the back of the field.
- Please note, Golf is on, bar course being closed.
- Re caddie/guides, please try to arrange one yourself (if you have a friend or relative) or we will have to work together to solve the problem.
- Also note, that this schedule is subject to change from time to time, therefore please check with the BGNSW Captain to ensure the event you intend participating in is on.
- Special note for caddie/guides: i) if you are available for Saturday games and ii) that if there is interest in some of our away trips, please email/phone BGNSW Captain Jenny Abela of your possible interest in traveling with the group.

Golf Competitions and Handicap Applications
General Stroke Events
All singles, 2 ball, pairs, team and 4 ball stroke, par and stableford events are played off full handicaps for 18 hole events and when playing 9 hole events, the countback list for the out 9 holes is to be used to establish a handicap. For BGNSW events, groups are to be of 2 and/or 3 players and a 12 stroke pick up rule is to apply for Stroke events (If a player picks up after 12 strokes, (12 inside a circle is to be noted on the scorecard).Medley Events
The term Medley is used to identify competitions where men and women play together. Groups can consist of all men, all women or any combination of men and women.Stableford Events
A stableford event is an individual event played over 9 or 18 holes using the hole index as shown on the scorecard and players handicap for the hole to score points. For example; a bogie with handicap scores 1 points, a par with handicap scores 2 points, a birdie with handicap scores 3 points and so on. If you can not score any points on that hole, you must pick up and move to the next tee. If playing 9 hole events, the countback list for the out 9 holes is to be used to establish a handicap. All scorecards must show actual score for each hole. Scorecards failing to show actual score for each hole will be declared invalid.Par Events
A similar individual event to a stableford event, played over 9 or 18 holes using the hole index as shown on the scorecard and your handicap for the hole. Scoring is as follows; If you par the hole with handicap, a circle (O) is marked on the card. If you birdie the hole with handicap, a plus (+) is marked on the scorecard. If you bogie the hole with handicap, a dash (–) is marked on the scorecard. All scorecards must show actual score for each hole. Scorecards failing to show actual score for each hole will be declared invalid. At the end of the round, you add the + and – to determine a winner.Foursomes
Two players play as partners using one ball. The partners tee off alternate tees and thereafter play the ball in turns until holed. The pairs handicaps are combined and halved to establish their handicap for an 18 hole event. If it is a 9 hole event, handicaps are halved again.Other Types of Foursomes Events
Canadian Foursomes
Both players play tee shots at every hole and thereafter continue playing with one of the balls, striking it in turn until holed. Players play off 3/8ths of their combined handicap.Brazilian Foursomes
Both players play tee shots and second shots at each hole. Thereafter play continues with one of the balls. The non owner of the selected ball plays the third shot. Play continues in turn until the ball is holed. Players play off 1/4 of their combined handicap.American Foursomes
Both players play tee shots at each hole and then play a second shot with their partner’s ball. One ball is then played in turn until holed. The owner of the ball plays the third shot. Players play off 3/8ths of their combined handicap.Ambrose
A team event usually played with 2, 3 or 4 players. All players tee off. The best tee shot is selected and all players play from that point. The procedure of selecting the best position continues until the ball is holed.Special Conditions of Play
- Play from the fairway (mown portion) – players are to place their balls within one club length, either side of the selected ball, no nearer the hole.
- Play from the rough - players are to place their balls within one club length, either side of the selected ball, no nearer the hole. All players must play from the rough.
- Play from bunkers/hazards - players are to place their balls within one club length, either side of the selected ball, no nearer the hole. All players must play from the bunker/hazard.
- On the green – players are to putt and mark, remembering that once the ball is holed, the hole is completed. Players place their ball within one putter head of the selected ball.
- Tee shot rule – In an 18 hole, four person Ambrose, all players must have three of their tee shots used in the round. In a two ball Ambrose, a six tee shot rule applies. In a 9 hole, four person Ambrose, all players must have two of their tee shots used in the round. In a two ball Ambrose, a three tee shot rule applies. The players who teed off on each of the 18 holes must be shown on the scorecard (initials are satisfactory).
- Handicap Applications – groups of 2, 3 or 4 players add their full handicaps together (18 holes) half handicaps (9 holes)
If 2 players divide the total handicaps by 4.
If 3 players divide the total handicaps by 6.
If 4 players divide the total handicaps by 8.
